What the filter set protects against
The filter set includes 2 filters:
- F7 (ePM2.5 55%)
- F7 (ePM1 55%)
The set follows the ISO 16890 standard for particle filtration efficiency. The F7 filter captures around 55% of very fine particles as small as 1 micron, including bacteria, smog, tobacco smoke particles, combustion dust, spores and wildfire smoke particles. It cleans incoming outdoor air before it enters your home.
One of the two filters is an activated carbon filter. Activated carbon adsorbs gases rather than trapping particles, so it takes out odours, exhaust fumes and volatile organic compounds that a particle filter passes straight through — useful on a busy street, near a car park, or anywhere cooking and traffic smells get drawn into the unit. Carbon filters lose capacity over time rather than clogging visibly, so keep to the replacement interval even if they still look clean.
Usage and maintenance
Zehnder recommends replacing the filters every 6 months to keep air quality and system performance at their intended level. How often they actually need changing depends on:
- Air pollution levels (urban versus rural surroundings)
- Allergies or respiratory sensitivities in the household
- Pets indoors, or smoking
- Dust from nearby construction work
If your unit has a filter change indicator, follow its alerts. Otherwise check the filters by eye — if they look heavily soiled or clogged, replace them.
About Enervent and manufacturing quality
Enervent is a Finnish ventilation manufacturer based in Porvoo, where it has built heat recovery units for over 40 years. It has been part of the Zehnder Group since 2018. Enervent is known for units that combine heat recovery with an integrated heat pump and its own energy management technology, designed for Nordic conditions — which is also why its filters see long heating seasons and benefit from being changed on schedule.
This filter set is manufactured by Zehnder and purchased directly from them, so authenticity and consistent quality are assured. The filters use Minipleat construction, in which the filter medium is folded into many shallow, closely spaced pleats. That packs a large filtration area into a slim frame and keeps air resistance low, so the unit works less hard to move the same air. Using original filters keeps the system operating within the manufacturer's stated technical data.
